Technician Certification Program Prerequisites

Individuals considered for WACEL certification in all disciplines shall have sufficient education, training and experience to help assure understanding of the principles and procedures of the tasks for which certification is sought.

All applicants shall complete and submit to WACEL an application for certification for the level of certification sought. Applications must be received in the WACEL office prior to or on the test date. If applications are not received, tests will not be graded and/or results will not be released. Applications from WACEL members must be signed by supervisory personnel who are responsible and accountable for the technician’s performance. All applications from nonmember firm representatives must be signed and sealed by a registered professional engineer.

  • Reinforced Concrete Special Inspectors must have a valid Concrete I certification from WACEL or another certification body recognized by WACEL.
  • Structural Masonry Special Inspectors must have a valid Concrete I certification from WACEL or another certification body recognized by WACEL.
  • Foundation Special Inspectors must have a valid Concrete I and Soil I certification from WACEL or another certification body recognized by WACEL.
  • Structural Concrete Special Inspectors must have a valid Concrete I and Reinforced Concrete certification from WACEL or another certification body recognized by WACEL.

Technicians must successfully pass written and applicable proficiency exams as a condition of certification. Proficiency and written exams must be successfully completed within 90 days of one another.

Payment for exams is also a condition of certification.

WACEL certifications are valid for a period of five years. Technicians must successful meet all prerequisites and retake certification and applicable proficiency exams to become recertified.
